Collaboration was at the heart of Tuntum Housing’s successful SHDF Wave 2.1 retrofit project, which aims to upgrade 48 properties across the Midlands to a minimum EPC C rating. By bringing together industry-leading partners, this initiative demonstrated the power of strategic teamwork in delivering impactful energy efficiency improvements.

Tuntum Housing partnered with Eveco Solutions who played a crucial role as not only the assessment partner, conducting detailed retrofit assessments to ensure informed decision-making, but also to lead and manage the project delivery. YES Energy Solutions joined as the accredited installation partner and ECO Surv provided essential end-to-end PAS 2035 support, leveraging our advanced retrofit platform and coordination services to streamline project delivery and compliance.

Project Overview:

  • Location: East Midlands (Nottingham/Leicester/Derby)
  • Scheme: SHDF 2.1
  • Number of Houses: 48
  • Project Start Date: 1st September 2023
  • Project Completion Target: 31st March 2025

Project Aims:

  • Conducting thorough upfront retrofit assessments to guide effective decision-making.
  • Supporting residents with enhanced home comfort and reduced energy costs.
  • Lowering carbon emissions and helping meet Net Zero commitments.

Measures Included:

  • External Wall Insulation (EWI)
  • Room in Roof Insulation (RIR)
  • Solar PV
  • Loft Insulation
  • Cavity Wall Insulation

The Role of Eveco Solutions:

Eveco Solutions played a vital role of managing this project end-to-end, and in the early stages of the project, providing detailed retrofit assessments through Elmhurst Energy and the ECO Surv Platform.

Their expertise ensured:

  • Accurate property assessments to determine existing EPC ratings and identify homes most in need of upgrades.
  • Technical surveys submitted via the ECO Surv app that provided cost estimations and pre-empted potential installation challenges.
  • Data-driven decision-making, allowing the project team to plan the most effective retrofit measures for each home.

How ECO Surv Supported the Project:

Delivering successful retrofits requires more than just funding and ambition – it demands expertise, coordination, and seamless project management. That’s where ECO Surv to provide support across multiple areas of the retrofit process.

We collaborated with all partners to ensure a cohesive and successful project by providing the following services:

  • Retrofit Software: Our PAS-compliant workflow management tool enabled seamless data capture and processing of all required retrofit assessment forms.
  • Retrofit Coordination: Our team ensured smooth project execution, from initial planning to final installations, maintaining compliance with PAS 2030/PAS 2035 standards.
  • Retrofit Designs: As part of our in-house retrofit coordination services, we developed high-quality, PAS-compliant Retrofit Designs to ensure a cohesive, effective, and regulation-aligned approach to energy efficiency improvements.
  • Thermal Bridging Calculations: The installation of External Wall Insulation (EWI) required precise Thermal Bridging Calculations to mitigate heat loss at junctions and maintain optimal energy performance across upgraded properties.
  • TrustMark Lodgement: All post-EPCs were lodged directly through the ECO Surv platform into the TrustMark data warehouse for complete compliance and transparency.

Achievements:

  • Pre: All properties were rated EPC D or below.
  • Post: Following the retrofit improvements, all properties achieved a minimum EPC C rating, significantly improving energy efficiency.

Key highlights & lessons learned along the way included:

  • Early engagement is crucial: Working closely with all stakeholders from the outset helped identify and resolve potential challenges before they could impact progress.
  • Strong assessment foundations lead to better outcomes: The detailed retrofit assessments conducted by Eveco Solutions allowed for precise planning and the best use of SHDF funding.
  • Tenant engagement is key: Ensuring clear communication with residents throughout the process significantly improved satisfaction and cooperation, leading to a smoother retrofit experience.

By combining expert retrofit assessments with robust project coordination and cutting-edge software, this project has successfully delivered tangible benefits to residents, reduced carbon footprints, and contributed to the UK’s Net Zero targets.
